Beacon – Winter Leading Aggregate
21st September 2018 - 31st March 2019£2
Featuring a brand-new format for this season, our Winter Leading Aggregate competition starts on Monday 1st October with route setting from climbing superstar Emma Twyford.
Gone is the onsight/flash format of previous years, replaced with a new scoring system that aims to encourage and reward you for trying as many routes as possible.
What is it?
An informal ‘aggregate style’ competition running from October to March and open to all climbers, whereby you score points for every designated Leading Aggregate route that you try during the competition period. At the end of March, the climbers with the highest number of points in each of the gender/age categories will win an awesome prize courtesy of our event sponsors.
How does it work?
Enter by purchasing your score card from reception for £2 (all proceeds donated to the North Wales Bolt Fund), then try to climb as many of the designated Leading Aggregate routes as you can.
Every route included in the competition is given a number, displayed next to the starting holds. A successful ascent (‘top’) is worth 20 points, but even if you cannot finish the route, you still earn 1 point for each quickdraw that you clip before falling or resting (‘high point’). After completing or attempting a route, write your score next to the relevant route number on your score card. You can always amend your score at a later date, if necessary.
Each route can be attempted as many times as you like but must be climbed ‘clean’ (no resting or using aid) from the starting holds to successfully clipping the belay from the last hold (grabbing the top of the wall is ‘out’) to qualify as a successful ascent (a ‘top’).
We aim to add new routes every week so you should have something new to try every session. Just remember that the aggregate works numerically with the highest route numbers representing the newest routes. Be tactical and try to tick the lowest numbers first before they are removed to make way for newer routes.
Please return your score card to reception when you leave after each session, otherwise we will not be able to record your points.
